Fall in love with science
Isn't every day Valentine's day? After your date or non-date night of the 14th, we give you a good reason to treat yourself with a bit of love, science.. and pints! Forget the pressure of Valentine’s day and join our Science Speed Dating! Take the traditional speed dating concept, but instead of lonely hearts trying to seduce you with “stories” about their career and their supposedly rare use of dating apps, you get local researchers trying to excite you with science and behind the scene stories about what it means to be a scientist.
Forget everything you know about speed dating and Valentine’s day! This year again, Pint of Science Belgium will make you fall in love with science! 😍
Their mission will be to make you guess what their field of research is and, of course, to make you fall in love with it... All in 10 minutes, before moving on to the next table! It's also the perfect moment for you to ask all your burning questions... Do neuroscientists actually grow “mini-brains”? Is alcohol killing your brain cells? Do astronomers sometimes dissect animals? Spoiler alert: answers are yes, no, and probably.
To make you comfortable, everything will start by a romantic sunset pictured in a talk by Sebastian Dan (MOW - Departement Mobiliteit en Openbare Werken) during which we will learn more about how climate changes affect our sandy coast... And our midnight bath in the north sea. 🥽
And finally, because we will be your Valentine for a night, we will have some romantic (... or not) prizes for the winners of a little contest during the evening (surprise!).
🙋♀️🙋♂️ In practice: to maximise the potential for fun (and because it is not a real speed dating), participants will generally meet scientists in pairs or quadrigas (1 table = 1 scientist + 2 to 4 participants), so please don’t hesitate to bring your friends, your date(s?), your soon-to-be-ex, your mum or your pet-panda and have a great evening together. Or treat yourself and come alone to meet other science enthusiasts!
💌 Due to the nature of the event, places are limited, so book your ticket(s) now for this Pint of Science Valentine’s Day special event. If you come with friends and want to sit at the same table, just buy all the tickets together.
